I did feel that Roth's writing was a disservice to her characterization. I believed in their characterization, but I had to keep shoving aside how poorly it was expressed to accurately picture how those characters were really thinking and behaving. En brief, I don't think Roth had a good handle on Four's voice going in.

I think you named my summary reaction perfectly there. Not what it could have been but satisfactory.

I'm desperately waiting for the reveal on my Yuletide author, so I can read anything else I'd recognize that they've written. They did a flabbergastingly AMAZING job and it's my new headcanon.
